How to Play & Game Rules

Set Up. Take Turns. Have Fun.
A quick guide for your first game, your next backyard gathering, or a refresher before league night.
1. Set Up Your Boards
Face two boards toward each other on level ground. Measure 27 feet between their front edges for adult regulation play. Use eight bags: four of one color for each side.
2. Play a Round
- Stand beside your board. Toss underhand toward the opposite board, keeping your feet behind the front-edge foul line when you release.
- Alternate throws with your opponent until all eight bags are played.
- Agree on the score before collecting bags. In singles, walk to the opposite end in your same lane and throw back.
The side that scored throws first next round. If nobody scored, the previous first thrower starts again.
3. Count the Bags
A bag touching the ground does not score. A bag that hits the ground before reaching the board is dead. A bag hanging into the hole remains worth one point unless it falls through before scoring.
4. Use Cancellation Scoring
After the round, subtract the lower bag total from the higher. Only the difference is added to the higher-scoring side’s game score. Equal totals mean neither side scores.
Your bags total 7; your opponent’s total 4. Add 3 to your score.
5. Win the Game
Reach 21 or more after a completed round. Finish all eight throws before deciding the result. Going over 21 does not reset your score.
